Losin' Control by Ladii Nesha
A Review By: KH
Deemed Detroit's bad boy, Czar is a man of many layers.
To the world, he's a lyrical genius with a sharp tongue and tough exterior. Behind closed doors, he battles with dark demons from his past while dodging industry drama, scandals, and lies.
Marley is walking through life barely existing. Her soul is shattered by tragedy, leaving her with a heavy heart and broken spirit. She's content with fading into the shadows, and it works for her until she collides with him.
Czar is a walking red flag. Marley is emotionally unavailable. Together they are destined for emotional turmoil. Just when they have it all figured out, the duo learns that the past has a sneaky way of preying on the future.

I was not ready for how funny this book turned out to be. The sarcastic back-and-forth, the nonstop jabs—whew! I felt like I was sitting right in the middle of this loud, chaotic family, and honestly? I loved every second of it. The characters gave me life. They were real, messy, and totally relatable. Yes, there were some emotional gut punches, but it was all balanced out with enough humor and attitude to keep things moving.
Now, let me keep it real—the narrators didn’t fully do it for me. Nothing wrong with the execution, but it’s like casting a movie: you can have talented actors, but if the vibe’s off, it throws the whole thing a little. The chemistry and tone just didn’t quite match how I imagined these characters in my head. Czar in particular. Did it ruin the experience? Not exactly. But did it distract me sometimes? Yeah, a bit.
And look—as a born and raised Detroiter, hearing names and places butchered had me clenching my jaw. That part’s not on the author, but these audiobook companies really need to start looping authors in when it comes to regional stuff. It matters.
Still, the story itself? Fire.
Should you give it a listen? Definitely.
Would I recommend it? Without question.
